Is swimming good for teens who have Osgood Shlatter disease and a little tendinitis in his/her knees? Like would it make the knees more irritated? |
| Stop all running & un-supervised exercising. Swimming with fins can be therapeutic when not overdone. Walk comfortably at least 30 minutes daily. Drink 6 glasses plain water daily. Don't wear flip-flops; wear laceup shoes with evenly worn soles. |
Why dont teens wear swimming briefs anymore? when i was a little guy i wore speedos/swimming briefs to the beach in my back yard etc. then my parents started to buy me boardshorts and stuff. i didnt really care but now i think i would perfer them. why dont others wear them why are they frowned opon and why are they uncool i think they would look good on a teen like me. im 14 |
| For some reason board shorts were deemed "cool" and speedos became frowned upon. I prefer to wear speedos when I swim, they are much more comfortable. Board shorts have a tendency to stick to your legs and chafe when they are wet, since they take longer to dry. Wear speedos if they make you comfortable. |
Would I be able to take teen swimming lessons at the YMCA, then immediately take lifeguard training? I am 17 years old, I had taken swimming lessons as a guy, but im really blurry on the strokes. and now i want to do life guard training, so would i be able to take teen swimming lessons at the YMCA, and then do life guard training? is it really that simple? someone please give me details on life guard training, or the swimming lessons for teens, and how it goes about
any swim information will be useful |
To be very honest with you, my advise to you is to not do lifeguarding anytime soon. You need to be a relatively strong swimmer yourself before you should think about doing lifeguarding. I know there are many schools and trainers who would give you the false security about being able to do it. But do think twice. These trainers are just out to get more cash in with as many students as they can get to sign up but they do not think of the consequenses of their action.
Lifeguarding is not a joke business. It is a very serious matter and a very serious and noble proffession. If you are a lifeguard, you will be the first person to be saving the drowning victim and performing the first crucial moments of first aid that can be the life and death of that person. You are the stand in for the paramedics and doctors! Your position is a vital and serious one.
You will have to be a strong swimmer that not only can swim for yourself but also for another person. ( sometimes it can be a dead weight of the other person if the person is unconcious ) You not only have to be a strong swimmer but also a relatively fast swimmer so that you can reach the victim in time before too much damage can be done to themselves.
Lifeguarding swimming is different from recreational swimming. Lifesaving techniques require you to keep constant eye contact with the victim so that you will know exactly where the victim is and if the victim goes under you will know at which spot.
So my advise to you is, do not give up hope. You dont have to be an Olympic swimmer to be a lifeguard but you just need to practise correct your swimming techniques, build up your stamina, strength, and check with a lifeguarding instructor what are the requirements for the first level, and aim for that. usually you would have to be able to make certain distance in a specified amount of time and also do certain skills and swim and finish it all in a required amount of time.
For the time being, what you can do is, take some first aid classes and CPR classes at the YMCA on top of your swimming classes. Learn more about resusitation and also what to do in certain scenarios. Watch the lifeguarding team train and see what they do. I am sure the trainer wouldn't mind you sitting there watching them. But do ask questions only before or after the training sessions.
Good luck and I am glad you choose to do this noble thing. I had been a lifeguard and lifesaver for many years now. I am now a lifeguarding coach. Trust me, lifeguarding can be a very rewarding experience if you do encounter a situation. But you gotta learn to handle situations with a very rational and calm mind. Practice that first.

How many of us teens & adults still pee in the swimming pool? We all did when we were guys, but how many of us still do... |
| I don't! But I'm on the high school swim team at my school, and there are some girls who tell everyone that they do...and some of them say they go to the bathroom in the showers in the locker room--the type of showers in an open room with like ten showers. I think it's disgusting, even though the chlorine kills the bacteria. |
What's the name of that movie where there's a tar blob in a pond that kills these teens on summer vacation? I've been trying to figure out what the name of this movie was. There's just this patch of tar in a pond and there's some teens swimming and eventually it starts chasing them and I guess it eats them since it kinda burped once. I think it was a part of a TV series like Tales From the Darkside/Crypt, |
I think it's from Creepshow 2, a segment called "The Raft".

Are there any good summer camps for teens in bc that are triaditional(lake, canoeing, swimming)that are coed? I need a camp that is not expensive and is not specialized. I prefably want a traditional one. THanks! |
| There are many of them out there, although summer camps are getting pretty expensive these days. Most summer camps have a lake and offer canoeing and swimming so the hardest part would probably be finding one in your price range and one that's close to your area. I would try searching on www.mysummercamps.com as they list pretty much all the larger, accredited camps. |
Six more black teens drowned in Shreveport area, why don't they just take swimming lessons? I know the classes are offered all the time. |
It's too late now for these teens.
Rest in peace |
